This may sound like some crazy idea, and I'm not even sure if it's possible without a game crash, but has anyone ever successfully made two planets with atmospheres close enough where one can jump planets without ever truly being in space? Would such a feat be possible?

It's possible and the planets won't crash, they'll just go through each other if you edit the cfg files.

Would make for an interesting flight, going straight up in the atmosphere to fly to the other planet. Pretty much a literal impossibility to find in reality though.

Hm.
I deorbited a moon once.
Nothing particularly exciting happened.

Never tried with both having atmospheres, however.
Should be easy to do.

Why is it blue?

If thats Luna, it looks rather small.

I think what the OP means is; Within the physics of Orbiter, could two Earth or Mars sized planets revolve around a common gravitational center, which happens to be in, or just beyond the upper stratosphere of either planet? And have it be stable.

That sounds very, Larry Niven

Yes.

In the real world you'd get issues around the Roche limit but orbiter doesn't care as long as the cfg's are happy.

I wonder what the gravitational issues within Orbiter would be like? Having to do with atmospheric flight between the two bodies, and with say, Surface and Orbit MFD priorities.

It would make for an interesting flight.

Wow, didn't expect someone to make it on the spot. Thanks! I'll have to see how the DG reacts where the two gravities cancel out.
