After reading some orbiter sites I came across a link to this program. The MFD claims to save your extmfd settings. Unfortunately all the links for it are broken. Does this still work in Orbiter 2010 and does anyone have a copy? It would be very useful to have.

PersistentExtMFD has to patch Orbiter.exe in memory in order to hook the startup/shutdown sequence for external MFDs, so it only works in Orbiter 2006 build 060504. It would be a prohibitive amount of work to update it for Orbiter 2010 P1 because of all the new reverse engineering required, so unfortunately you're out of luck. Sorry for the bad news.
