Question Why to buy a new car?

So no one else has had their grubby little hands on it.

when your car gets rusted so much that the door is about to fall off that might be a reason to by a new that and if you dont want to get a shot if you get cut by the rust.

Because... it's got that smell. That new car smell, you know? I've bought 50 new minis in the past week, just for that smell... *inhales*

Also, global economic downturn means that car thefts are going to increase. I think. If car thefts increase, new car purchases increase. I think. *inhales*

Also, global economic downturn means that car-related suicides are going to increase (as in, car off cliff suicides). I think. If car-related suicides increase, new car purchases increase. I think. *inhales*

But don't take my word for it! I think.

I think you've been sniffing too many of those new-car-fumes.

I believe I heard somewhere that the "new car smell" is actually slightly toxic.

I don't believe my family has ever owned a new car.

You are not missing anything.

A 20-30K miles used car is the best value to buy. Check with your local rental car agency to see which ones they are off loading today.;)

News cars are cooler than used cars* so therefore you're not a cool cat unless you have a new car.

*The Jaguar E-type or the Mercedes-Benz 300SL are exceptions ;)

Also owning any Porsche 911 is cool. Especially if you own one of the old Carreras.

I'm not a particular fan of Porches, and particularly not the 911. It strikes me as a car peoæple buy when having a midlife crisis, and that's not very cool ;)

Still better buying a Porsche, than a iron junk heap from Milwaukee during your midlife crisis. ;)

Oh my goodness ... I'm away from the forum for a while and slip by for a quick check and see this ... tsk, tsk, tsk. There are quite a few 911s I would own had we been racing for pink slips, and me with my iron (and fiberglass) junk heap ... At least my car has the motor in the right place ...

As for the topic of this thread, I stopped buying new cars 15 years or so ago. Modern cars are so much better than they were 20 years ago in terms of quality and durability, that there's little rational reason to buy a "new" one.

Speaking of new cars I'm trying to figure out which car I should buy. Really I'm looking for 3 things. Decent mileage, enough room to move my stuff when I change apartments and comfortable enough for 10 hour drives.

For this reason I was thinking an El Camino. Any other suggestions?
