These three .wav files replace the standard ones that come with the XR series of vessels (DG-XR1, XR2 and XR5). I find the original sounds quite loud and also make it seem like the APU is right under your seat when it could perhaps be located at the back of the spacecraft. This sound is more of a distant hum and is less annoying as a result.

Mixed using sounds of a real APU and a generator.

A good idea indeed. The only drawback is that it's easier to forget now that you have your APU running :)

Haven't tried it out yet, but eager to compare it to how a REAL APU sounds.

Sounds good, if it's to be heard from the cockpit. If it's meant to be heard from the outside, it's FAR too quiet. Real APUs can run at more than 100 dB... Rather painful without protection, trust me. :P

I always thought the sound of the APU was a bit overwhelming as well. I remember editing the various APU sounds a year or two ago just to decrease their volume a bit. It seems to me I ended up cutting the volume by 80% or more.

Anyway, I just installed these new APU sounds you made and I think they are pretty good. Will take some getting use to, but generally I prefer softer/smoother cockpit sounds without harsh "edges".

Perhaps you could make a 1 minute video and post it on your YT channel so people can hear them before installing?

After playing with this for a few seconds . . . I like it. It's subtle, yet loud enough to be heard . . . and it gives the spacecraft a sort of 'home-y' soundscape when running.

Yes. Anything but that grating scream of the original!

The "APU running" warning finally has a purpose rather than stating the obvious!

As far as I know the APU sound file isn't heard at all in the exterior view, of course in real life you would hear it on the ground.

Good idea, I'll do that.

In space, nobody can hear your APU scream! :)
