Project XR2 Ravenstar - Mk II

why would it need a separate key? You can already turn on the ground using the yaw controls, there's just currently no nosewheel animation tied to it like there is on the XR5.

I guess he's thinking of a switch, like the shuttle or some aircraft, that have to activate nose wheel steering for safety reasons.

the xr's have all been steerable on the ground without needing a separate switch so thats a pretty moot point imo. all we're talking about is adding a graphical effect for something that already works.

btw, i know some people have been asking for wreckage effects, i produced a mesh for this ages ago that doug can put into the mk2.

cool now I have a reson to re-enter backwards
(and sorry for any spelling mistakes fire fox is not checking them)

Whatever happened to the XR0, did it ever get off the drawing board?

The XR2 mk I, XR1 1.5, and XR5 1.2 just shipped, and the XR2 mk II is scheduled next (and it will take awhile.) Any new XR vessels are still on the drawing board, and will be for the foreseeable future. Designing, modeling, texturing, coding, and testing each new vessel takes a lot of work, and it is only practical for the dev team to work on one new vessel at a time.

thanks for the info dbeachy, i don't mind, the XR2 can keep me interested for a long while to come. Congrats on the great XR2 to both of you anyway.

As far as the XR-x goes, it would be quite useful to modify the external resupply code so that the external LOX stays connected once the tanks are full and keeps filling the tanks at a trickle so that we can leave the ships on airless bases without remorses and state funerals in space...

If you want to leave the ship docked to a station indefinitely, just open the inner and outer airlock doors while docked. You will get a callout stating, "Using external O2," and no onboard oxygen will be used from that point on. (Also, if the radiator is not deployed, remember to engage external cooling as well to keep the ship's systems cool for extended periods.)

I think he might mean when you're on a suface base... might be useful, though it would probably be more reasonable that the crew would power down, leave the vessel and enjoy the facilities of the ground base.;)

As for the paintkit, i'm reluctant to release it as mk2 changes have affected the UV layout and i'm implementing some more changes that will affect any skins made for it at this point... probably wouldn't be a huge big deal to modify any skins made but it might get messy.

Ah, that's a good point. The simplest way to implement it will be to modify the external cooling logic to supply oxygen for the crew as well as coolant for the ship. This enhancement will be in the next XR maintenance releases.

I like the continual charge scenario. Seems more logical than having an invisible O2 resupply option.

The same could be done for APU fuel.

Do you think you could add a button on the panel that undocks the ship, and won't let it undock when the airlocks are open, like the DGIV?

I'd like to see an interlock or some kind of arming switch, so it's possible but just hitting the button to disengage won't work.

As long as it means more buttons and switches to press, I'm all for it. :)

Its real easy in a simpit . . .

Do you really need a switch, or just a callout saying "Yo, bozo; close the door before you shove off" :P
