Hi all,

I'm pleased to announce that PennyBlack has graciously accepted my invitation to use his custom XR5 textures as the official textures for the XR5 going forward! :) Here the list of textures from PennyBlack that are now included in the core XR5 distribution:

  • [ame="http://www.orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=4881"]XR5 Alternate texture pack[/ame] (final update)

  • [ame="http://www.orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=4984"]XR5 Cargo bay v2 Light[/ame]

  • [ame="http://www.orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=4982"]XR5 - Altea 2[/ame] (skin XR5Altea2)

In addtion, with his permission I have linked to his [ame="http://www.orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=5043"]XR5 Paint Kit[/ame] from my Web site as the official XR5 paint kit.

Also, Carmen A has granted permission for me to include her new XR5 main fuel, SCRAM fuel, LOX, and H20 tank payload modules in the official XR5 distribution going forward as well.

As such, I just released the new XR5 1.5 version with the changes listed above plus a few other tweaks. Here is the list of changes in the new version:

  • Incorporated the new textures from PennyBlack as detailed above.

  • Incorporated Carmen A's four new XR5 fuel/LOX/H20 tank payload modules into the distribution package.

  • Tweaked specular material settings in the XR5's mesh to make it look more metallic.

  • Tweaked XR5 crew elevator deployment by +0.4 degree (it was *very slightly* off the ground before).

  • Updated the XR5 payload scenarios to include the new cargo modules from Carmen A in addition to the existing XR5 payload modules.

  • Updated the XR Flight Operations Manual with new screenshots and updated the XR5 development team credits. (The updated manual is included in the XR5 installation zip file.)

  • Fixed spurious "WARNING: invalid TwoDPanelWidth value; falling back to 1280-pixel 2D panels" message generated on startup in XR5Vanguard.log.

  • Fixed ALT-H shortcut key bug where it would advance two HUD colors per keypress instead of just one (thanks to Epsilon for reporting this).

On a side note, I want to make it clear that I was the one who had created the original XR5 skin textures (not Russell Hicks!), and I'm certainly not an artist! I want to extend my personal thanks to PennyBlack for his excellent XR5 skins as well as his XR5 paint kit. Thanks, mate! :tiphat: I also want to thank Russell Hicks for his work tweaking the XR5's mesh to work better with PennyBlack's skins. :tiphat:

You can get the new XR5 1.5 version on my updated Web site. Happy Orbiting! :cheers:

When I used Jones Mod Enabler to copy the XR5 into Orbiter I get these errors:

"Altea_Default_Payload_Thumbnail.bmp" has already been altered by the "XR2Ravenstar-1.2" mod.
"XRPayloadBay.cfg" has already been altered by the "XR2Ravenstar-1.2" mod.
"XRPayloadBay.msh" has already been altered by the "XR2Ravenstar-1.2" mod.

Is this right? Are these common files for the XR ships?

They are, you should be fine just overwriting them :thumbup:

Yes, those files are included with both the XR2 and the XR5 since both have payload bays. Altea_Default_Payload_Thumbnail.bmp is the default payload graphic for payload modules that do not specify a custom one, and XRPayloadBay.cfg and XRPayloadBay.msh are necessary in order for the Orbiter core to render the payload bays in the XR2 & XR5 from the payload camera view.

Details are on page 69 of the XR Flight Operations Manual in the section titled XR2-01_Bay/XR5-01_Bay Vessel Saved in Scenario Files. :thumbup:

this is a well timed post, i was just considering the XR5, and how i should suggest features for the next version, after coming up with some ideas (yes, i know that you'll have your hands full with the new XR2, this is for whether you work on the XR5 V2 in the future)

should i just put them here, or message you, or something else?

thanks
-=Grover=-

PS, nice work man ;)

It will probably be a while before any new XR5 version is released, but feel free to PM me. :)

Big thanks for the update :D

While the next official update may be quite a ways off, I hope that there would be a few more 'field modifications' or additions to the cargo payloads. While it's really a tiny thing, I might upload the container paint kit tomorrow or something, and see if I can make some space age commercial containers.

So we can play Space Truckers on multiplayer? :D

PennyBlack's paint template is awesome :3

Art deco skin (WIP)

The XR5 v1.5 is no-go for me. When I try using it, I get nothing. Literally, nothing. No mesh, no cockpit. I'm getting the following errors (from my Orbiter.log):

---------------------------------------------------------------
>>> ERROR: Could not load vessel module:
>>> [Vessel::LoadModule | .\Vessel.cpp | 5432]
---------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------------------
>>> ERROR: XR5Vanguard
>>> [Vessel::LoadModule | .\Vessel.cpp | 5433]
---------------------------------------------------------------

I've tried reinstalling v.1.5 several times, and have even tried re-downloading the .zip file. I can step back to v1.3b no problems, but the errors come right back when I step back up to v1.5.

Any thought/hints/tips/ideas? Is there something I'm missing during installation?

Can i see complete Orbiter.log?

Hmm, that's odd -- it looks like it's missing some files. Can you load version 1.5 in a clean Orbiter installation? Also, what is the exact size of your XR5Vanguard-1.5.zip file? It should be exactly 73,898,969 bytes.

I just downloaded it a minute ago, and it's 20,293,576 bytes. 7zip can't even open it. I'm attempting to download it again (using Firefox,) and the progress bar jumped immediately to 20.3MB. Something fishy is going on here. :blink:

Edit: Strange. The fourth download attempt was the correct size, and works properly. So, just strange behaviour from Firefox. Nevermind then. :s

BTW, don't forget that you can download the separate 2-MB RAR files for any of the XR vessels if your zip file download b0rks. :tiphat:

This is a bug of the XR2. Sometimes when in atmospheric flight, if you pause Orbiter, the XR2 appears red like in reentry, and then when you unpause the texture goes back to normal. Nothing really important actually but anyway. I believe it happens if you already got red while flying, but I'm not sure. I'll test it in a new installation in a few hours.

Ack, I just figured out what my problem was. I didn't realize that there was a patch out for the main Orbiter executable; I was still running 100606. Just patched up to 100830, and the new XR5 appears to be up and running without a hitch now.

Thanks anyway, y'all!
