Project Universal Car for Orbiter (UCO)

Dan,

Will the SDK provide DGIV-style on-screen messages when certain (author defined?) consumables (O2, food, etc) are eliminated? I mean the big red messages that so painfully conveyed the fact that you were dead, of course. ;) Additionally, are there any updates to the code that will convert some cargo to another type of cargo (ie ore to a metal, etc)?

Looking forward to this release and all the addons that will surely follow! Thanks! :-D

Now... "suppose" that at destination you press a key and an Azure Rover descend smoothly from your ship so you can have a small exploration trip ???!!!
This would complete the chain:

UMMU to cars->car to pad->Cargo brought by truck to pad->loading cargo into ship->trip->Unloading rover->taking rover with MMU->exploration with rover.

Uh ? would'nt this be cool ?

YESSSSSS IT WOULD (why I'm yelling like this ??? :) )

It's possible to use DGIV cargo pods with the XR-2 if an appropriate config

Deeply sorry but no, attachment is not possible and therefore it has to be coded.
The C++ SDK is really simple, I would say 10mn to get a basic cargo support (by key)
a litle more if you want to fully integrate it. (button on panel, door managment etc)

I RECALL that cars doesn't require any coding, only a config file.

Will the SDK provide DGIV-style on-screen messages when certain

The SDK provide all the information function (cargo grappled eliminated etc) author's job to give appropriate feedback. Now the O2 part has nothing to do with the SDK. I'ts Arrow 18 specific and yes there will be feedback.

Cheers

Dan, this is just awesome.

I suppose the big question is, when will you stop adding things and start the Beta Testing? :P

Really thank you for all your hard work, this is just incredible

no the real question is how many more features can you fit in before testing starts next tuesday?

Hey Dan.Are you going to have a docking port on the mother ship, so you can hook up with bigger ships such as the XR5.Great stuff your doing. Thanks

Not a bad idea, I'll see if I can include one on top near the EVA airlock. (in space because on ground I plan a lift that descend smoothly)

About date if everything is smooth I would say maybe 2-3 weeks, but I worked 18h last day so it go fast. "Cars" code is almost done but there is a lot of small detail to polish.

Cheers

yeah awesome dan and i would love to one day see this as a dgiv quality ship or better but awesome work dan i think you make the coolest looking ships and best quality

I didn't knew this was possible.
How do you make this happen?

Mesh animation (translate) then "CreateVessel" with a SHOW/NOSHOW so when the rover is stowed is 4000 poly are hidden.

Very Simple. Had no pain to merge the rover in one group only as I optimise my mesh.

(With the rover I gained 200 FPS by merging material group, a not well know method it seem even if it's in the directx doc and also in Martin's SDK doc... and in a tutorial I made in 2001 ;) )

Should update it but the core is valid. MERGE MATERIAL GROUP !!!!!!!! http://www.dansteph.com/publie/tutorial/Texturing.html

The other way to do this is attachment. I made a Jupiter2 ship that had 3 pads that lowered. One had the chariot attached. You could lower/raise the chariot and then detach and drive off

Dan, is there any way there could be a sort of bay inside of this mother ship, which you could drive around in when landed, and drive your car to the elevator pad? From there you would then lower your car to the surface of the planet. IIRC, for the Firefly addon you could do something like this, with its very cool cargo system! Also, if so, how many cars/rovers could fit in?

We need some Porta-Habitats for remote base operations....

Wow! Highly impressed, if orbiter addons were movies, you would be steven spielberg. Thanks again for your work.

Wow. This looks so cool.:speakcool:

Is this a custom exhaust?

Cool!

Does this vessel have hover engines? Surely it does, given how it lands.

I also can't wait to get my hands on this thing. Will it come with a custom panel?

I can not wait 'till tuesday>
