New Standard Unit?

I'm talking about cities.

Berlin, Cologne, Munich and Hamburg have each their own special dialect here. And you can hardly claim something to be more urbanized than Berlin. Language evolves...

That's stunning. Especially if you compare this to Russian, which is so uniform everywhere that people from Vladivostok speak exactly the same language as people in Kaliningrad, Norilsk and Makhatchkala (unless the latter talk in Dag, of course). But here is the clue: I'm talking about cities. Who cares about what happens outside cities? Perhaps, you have never been so forcefully urbanized, and this helped you to preserve your diversity of dialects.

Here's, the difference isn't between an urban and non urban area, but between parts of the country. The dialect sticks to one part and offten the borders between dialects are as sharp as driving over a hill.

I'm surprised that Russian doesn't have dialects. I though there would be even more then in Slovenian, given the obvious geographical difficulties...

If Californians manage to get hella implemented, will New England counter by suggesting "wicked" as the prefix for 10^30?

Would not be realistic to get through though... the "yotta-" comes from the Greek word for "eight-", which relates to the Octillion (10^24). The next one in the series of Greek words would be "xenna-", which means "nine".

I prefer this convention much more.

I think "wicked" should be the prefix for 10^-27. That way hella and wicked would cancel each other out. Wicked small vs. hella huge.

Now we just need a good way to quantify intelligence so that it can have a scientific meaning to call someone, "Wicked smaht!"

We could count the time from waking up to sarcasm.

Let's the Probe be the new standard unit. :)

1 Probe = 279 kilograms (Luna E3)

So my body weight (ref. Earth) is roughly equal to 0.258 probes.

Maybe 0.00000001% chance of succeeding we just dont need it.

That's a generous percentage. Personally, I think it'd be kinda funny if they got it, but I think the whole thing is a bit tongue-in-cheek. They are right that we probably are going to need a new upward bound, but it is more likely they are going to use the conventional standard to name it.

No. Scientists like established standards and any time there's a change, there's an uproar. We're still using the catalogues created by Messier and Dreyer (Herschel), despite being somewhat outdated. There's also the "PLUTO IS A PLANET!!!!111!!!" crowd...

I like this prefix it sounds hella :speakcool:.

*walks into gunshop*

- Is this 5.8 hellawatt plasma rifle any good?
- Ah that model is for teenage kids, you would probably want something with a bit more punch.
- Fine, what about that 38 hellawatt model?
- Well that`s still is on the low end, you may want to come here where we keep high powered stuff. I recommend you take a look at this 140 hellawatt model it`s a real good choice for those who are with limited budgets. but still want good performance.

*buys the 140 hellawatt plasma rifle*

But it is a planet a proto planet is still a planet just didnt get enough mass to be a planet

wrong.

It is a dwarf planet.

It is a dwarf planet, because it does not have enough mass relative to the remaining objects in its orbital region, to either:

- absorb them
- push them outside the orbital region
- capture them as moons
- or push them into the stable Lagrange points.

A dwarf planet is not "still a planet". It is a special class of solar system objects.
