News Flash: Whos is right? Apple or Adobe?

Announcement of VP8 expected within a week. This could make this whole debate moot.

How? Does it combine a better compression algorithm than H.264 with less patent issues than Ogg Theora?

Even then, the question remains whether Apple will allow the standard to be implemented on their products.

With the danger of being thrown into the OS flame war thread, I warn you: don't use Apple products. And if you already do: try to hack it. If you own a product, you should be in full control of that product.

I don't have any of these mobile gadgets, but if I ever want to buy one, I will go for one of these Android or other Linux-based ones, and search on the Internet which specific models allow me root-level control of the system.

in this situation i would support apple.
They are right about the performance problems of Flash.
They are right about the need for open standards on the web.
What they say is right.

But what they do is wrong.
Not allowing people to use Flash on their devices is wrong.
Putting censorship on what applications people can use is wrong.
Their own use of proprietary standards is wrong.

What support do they deserve?

Google is apparently claiming a substantial improvement in the leak and thus as crazy as it seems it may just beat H264. Thora comes from the same company ON2 and to date no major litigation has been levied against it. And apple's "Worries" about it mean nothing when apple is facing multiple lawsuits for their own violations.

I have no intention of using apple products.
