This stuff makes me happy I live in Indiana. We have squirrels and deer and raccoons and stuff, not scorpions and giant grasshopper-looking things and swarms of flesh-eating ants.

You should be fine in New Zealand. Just avoid Australia, they have all the bad stuff. Snakes, Crocodiles, Toads and deadly spiders. New Zealand only has one poisonous animal which is a spider that is barely seen as it avoids civilization.

I first encountered that in the media about ten years ago. It was in a National Geographic article in the same edition as the rescue of the LDEF. That picture was in it, IIRC.
Still, reminds me of the mutant sand crab in the Fukushima thread... Insanely big thing that should not be that big.:lol:

Yup. Somehow the idea of coyotes or bears prowling my yard at night still seems better than having these fellows hopping around.

(And for the record, we do have coyotes and bears. Damn bears keep eating all the grapes.)

To be honest, I'm not too fond of any insect. I don't mind crustaceans though. Why would I find crustaceans cool but have an aversion to insects?
