Alright, I wanted to ask you guys, what your favorite rock band was and why? After all, today's music is awful! My favorite bands, are Led Zeppelin/Beatles/Who because of the quality of their music, and how it is played. They each represent an important step in the quality of music.

I wouldn't say that todays music is aweful. Yes, a lot of todays music is aweful. But to blame are the people who buy such trash, not the people who produce it. Also, there are many contemporary bands, who know how to rock:

Knorkator - Extremely skilled entertainers.
Die Ärzte - We both grew up together.
Blind Guardian - Epic! Just Epic!
Rammstein - Any questions? RRRrrreally?
Iron Maiden - Do I need to say anything?
Airbourne - Something to see live

AC/DC, Queen, Scorpions, Guns and Roses, Ramstein ... and all the whole good rock. But I dont like to say any group.
I simply start up the radio and search a good frequency and I swim in the rock world.

I have heard some Russian rock, it is interesting to say the least. Wish I knew how to speak Russian. (It takes me two years of intensive studying to learn one language of foreign. My brother could pick up languages so easily. It was insane.

Define "Rock"

The theme from The Flintstones? ;)

Gotta disagree with you there. At any time, good and bad music are being made, and, IMO, the perception that music from the past is better is simply because good music stays, while bad music fades away.

Anyway, I'll add some Brazilian bands to the list (with examples and some crude translations):

  • Matanza
  • Massacration
  • Os Paralamas do Sucesso
  • Legião Urbana
  • Cássia Eller

Disclaimer: I have no idea how to classify music according to genre. Some of those bands a very trashy, specially if you understand their lyrics.

Iron maiden, Metallica, Motorhead, AC/DC, Black Sabbath, DIO (Rip..), Manowar

Okay. I'm going to expand this to "My favorite bands" because the definition of "Rock" can cover so incredibly much.

1. Skinny Puppy
2. Depeche Mode
3. Ministry up until about '95-'96
4. Controlled Bleeding
5. Wolf Eyes
6. Xastur
7. Sun ((O
8. Legendary Pink Dots

There a TON more. I could take up an entire web page with this list so I'll stop here.

U2 (pre No Line on the Horizon) and Peter Gabriel (Genesis and his solo career, especially his solo career), and throw in Eagles (love Don Henley's solo stuff too) and the Beatles (Abbey Road is just awesome)

Probably all above......+

Should say the original was better than the stadium version above?

Lady I knew thought the phrase was "and your cheques for free", oh well...
