Question Favorite Rock Band?

Yes, I thought Rush was a prerequisite for fans of Orbiter! My taste its fairly eclectic too, but I have leanings toward the much-maligned 'prog' genre. In no particular order:-
Rush
Marillion
Genesis
Floyd
Porcupine Tree/Anything Steven Wilson
Arena
Frost*
Jethro Tull
Yes

amongst others. Early PT is particularly 'spacey'. Frost* blew me away the first time I heard their track 'Black Light Machine'. Will try to find YT linkies when I get home from work.

Here we go:-

Sepultura
First 2 or 3 albums from Rush
Judas Priest
Godsmack
Some Megadeth and many...many more

Suppose, I think it hasn't been mentioned above?

Banned from every guitar sales shop in the UK!

EDIT: or a better version:

I thought it was Stairway to Heaven that was denied.

I thought that Smoke on the Water is only banned in harmonica stores.

Perhaps this should be banned?

Not as long as this exists:

So many metal fans here?
I prefer the 80-ies - pop&wave. I find the sounds of those analogue synths very pleasant, many guitars and other instruments were also used, e-bow effects, etc.: Those were very advanced bands.
Ultravox (released new album in May 28, 2012, the first since 1986);
Human League;
Flock Of Seagulls;
Tears For Fears;
Men Without Hats;
Alphaville;
Icehouse;
Pseudo Echo;
Thompson Twins and many more.

80s synths without mentioning Depeche Mode or Propaganda?

Or even Orchestral Manouvers in the Dusk?

IMO the Rolling Stones always have and always will suck, there's a reason their songs are in every year 1 beginner's guitar book. There is nothing creative or interesting going on there at all.

That sounds a bit like "Picasso sucks because I can do that too" :facepalm:

Passing of an era

Geoff Tate has left Queensryche recently for a solo career. They've contracted another singer, but it will never be the same. I've been listening to music almost exclusively during my 'break', mostly from the U.K. Pink Floyd tops the list with the albums 'Dark Side of the Moon.' 'The Wall,' and 'The Final Cut.' The Gunner's Dream is a particular favorite of mine. My buddy and I are planning to go sky diving and I'm going to listen to it with an mp3 player on the way down... Coldplay?(I just discovered Coldplay this year. They were outside the scope of my genre all these years and now I can't get enough. Def Leppard, The Police, Black Sabbath.

Most of my favorite bands have already been listed... I love Rammstein. I'd like to say more about them but... Disturbed, Pantera, Slayer, Van Halen, and Ludwig Van Beethoven, whom I believe to be the greatest musician who ever lived. That guy ROCKED without our tech.
:headbang:

THE BEATLES!!!!! But I have to say that pop music nowadays suck. Don't even mention Beiber or One Direction and all that crap.

I would still not be so harsh about it... among all the trash, you can still find some many pearls.

Just take the German long-play charts (I don't like the single charts at all currently, because you need to scroll down very far before you are free of junk):

2. Edguy - "Space Patrol - Defenders Of the Crown"

Very good power metal, if you can live with their boyish humour.

4. Jan Delay - "Hammer & Michel"

Not the smartest dude around, but does some good work from time to time.

6. Die Toten Hosen - "Der Krach der Republik"

Stands for itself, if you know anything about German rock music. :cheers:

7. ABBA - Greatest hits

The usual reminder that the past was better and more horrible at the same time.

8. Unheilig...... uuuuuuuuuuh :facepalm:

Lets move on. Unheilig was once pretty acceptable goth metal, but today, you can't even name it goth [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schlager_music"]Schlager music[/ame]. Extremely rubbish and the greatest hits album only highlights this corrosion.

10. Eels - "The Cautionary Tales of Mark Oliver Everett"

Have not heard of it yet, but its pretty rare to find the Eels in the German album charts. Maybe a reason to test it.
