News 'Ten shot dead' at Batman film premiere in Denver

Well, my inside voice is speculating all kinds of things, but I'll wait until the police release a statement before I actually voice an opinion.

It's sad though, that's for sure.

The information is still confusing, but it seems to distill towards two shooters wearing gas masks and ballistic vests, shooting viewers during the premiere of Batman. One shooter is said to be arrested, the other is still on the run.

EDIT: Number of dead was increased to 14 now.

The MSNBC comments make me almost literally sick. Random politics and racism that doesn't even hint at being trolling.
A couple comments stood out (not as bad or good). Someone asked how the UK had detailed news as it was still breaking on NBC and deaths were unreported on local news. The answer: "Simple: Do a twitter search, and post the first thing you find. Don't worry about accuracy or verifying your sources, just post every rumor up as fact as fast as you can so you can be first. If you're worried about being wrong, just preface it all with "somebody said"." Too true. At least it'll be worked out within a day.
I'd rather not make assumptions about race, religion, or motive as some people would... Just hoping for no more deaths.

Re-uploaded video as seen on bbc but longer and with audio. Not graphic. Worst is one very much alive man walking out of the theater with an officer despite some wound. Mostly just chaotic chatter.

This is certainly a sad event. My condolences to those involved.

Perhaps.. Perhaps not..

Well, since this is close to Columbine, I wonder if the two are connected? Is this a former student or something?

Would be too obvious... I'd rather say that Columbine gave bad ideas to some weirdo in the region and that he has been thinking to it for a couple of years...

Suspect should be 11 at the time of Columbine.
He also has Tennessee plates and information doesn't say how long he's been in Colorado.

Columbine was 13 years ago, the suspect is 20-24 now, and kids at 7-11 can be impressive. Or it might be unrelated at all.

Still no word on why did the murderer dressed up like batman and gone on shooting random people?
The whole thing sounds like something he planned, not just a bad trip gone violent.

It should be about 7am in Colorado now, so i guess we'll have to wait for the day to start fully before any details appear.
Meanwhile, i wish good doctors to the injured.

Living in Colorado myself this is just deeply tragic; once again Denver is thrust into the public view for mass murder by a lone crazed gunman !
My perception is that the mere title " The Dark Knight rises" partially lead itself to cause a disturbed individual to feel "called to become the dark knight"; who knows what goes on in this persons psyche.

For anybody to feel "enlightened" about any aspect of this tragedy or to even see one "different angle" to this event is deeply disturbing........................... tells me a lot about that person.

I'm not sure yet that the objective was to be a batman reenactment even if the similarities are there. This was just an event that was guaranteed hundreds of potential victims. And apparently easy access.
It's very interesting that he wasn't killed by police. We'll see what possessed him in time.

Yes, I also don't think that he was at Columbine. I am not even sure if he was inspired by Columbine. But he sure selected the place where he shot the people and did plan the crime. That is the detail that I think makes it artful: The location, time and execution of it.

And that is the monster that I see in it: As much as you are disgusted by the killing, as much does it appeal to your action movie indoctrinated brain. The aesthetics of the crime. Look at the current chaos of information and misinformation. How many people this crime reaches just by happening during a movie premiere.

A day and some bits ago, a terrorist exploded himself inside a Bus with Israeli tourists in Hungary. Notice something? Or better, do you notice a lack of something?

That could lead well into paranoid grounds.
I sincerely hope we are not yet so lost as to intentionally PR a movie by inducing a shooting at it's premier.

He thought about it - movie theater, midnight, premier-implies-surprise, gas grenades, people won't panic at once. That he intentionally dressed into something batman-like to prolong the no-panic time is not too far gone a conclusion.

I'm sure they'll come up with some pathetic excusse about his rough upbringing or childhood or how he was bullied in school as an excuse for his actions.
Defense Lawyers make me sick....

You think of the wrong product. The crime is its own product. With its own PR. It isn't the kind of killing, in which you try to get away and start a new life in Mexico.

Exactly.

Yet, you will very likely be happy to have one, when it is you who is accused of something that you have done or not done.

Everybody has the right to have somebody speaking in his favor. Even if there is not much favor left to balance against the crimes done.

I agree. I only meant that in my mind, it was more likely a tactic (as you said) than him feeling the need to become a character.

I agree, however, it is not a job that I could do or would want in some of these cases.

As far as I have heard, even the lawyers don't really like it, especially if it is a mandatory defender. You make a lot of enemies that way, especially among the stupid majority that does not realize that your job forces you to find things in favor of some monster, to permit a judge or a jury to make a just (not always the same as fair) decision. Many idiots really think that you really like the guy that you defend and embrace his position... but that is very rare. Usually it is a job, that you like to forget after you are done with it.

A poor childhood is no excuse for a crime, but it is a valid point in a case to tell what crime actually happened.
