Annular solar eclipse on May 20/21, 2012

Dang it, I don't have enough time to look for or obtain those special eclipse viewing things. Is it fine if look at the eclipse, but not directly?

that is a huge gamble. best do the pin hole thing. or if you can find shade 14 welder's glass somewhere, that will allow direct solar viewing.

Oh, I see, "science supply stores" (I don't know any near my house), "museums" (too far), and the internet (there's no time).

Forget the eclipse. Besides, the sun would probably be obscured by the condo buildings I live in, or hills.

Not looking good here.... 40 minutes to sunrise with the sky still overcast.

Japan doesn't look good either from satellite images, but we'll have to see..... (eclipse live from Mt. Fuji here)

I'm heading up to lake Erie tonight. I figure if I'm going to hardly see anything up here I might as well remove everything on the horizon and get as much as I can. Even if it isn't great a sunset over the lake is always nice. Hopefully the clouds clear out a bit more.

Unfortunately I've nothing to report: it completely clouded out here in Hong Kong. The low clouds were clearing out at sunrise, but it came to nothing. :thumbsdown:

This was my view of it:

Literally 30 seconds after I took that picture, clouds obscured it fully. But, through the clouds, I could see a tiny bite out of the sun. Made my night~

Well, it made for a gorgeous sunset here in Ohio. A bit hazy and a few clouds, but it was symmetrical on either side and those clouds all seemed to point at the sun. Definitely impressive even with it begin a very partial eclipse. I also got to see it through someone's telescope who was nice enough to share. And I got two hours of biking down round trip! No photos unfortunately.

Here's two of my 34 pictures of the eclipse, taken through my eclipse glasses:

The moon covered a bit more than that a few minutes later at maximum. The sky was also dimmed but the sun was still shining above the horizon.
