Astronaut takes moon rocks to the top of Everest

That's cool, but what exactly was the purpose of taking some moon rocks? I couldn't find anything about it in the article. Can anyone shed some light on this?

Yeah, symbolic of something that we can't quite grasp.

Moon rocks on top of Mount Everest? What's the purpose?

For me it would be more awesome, and more symbolic, if a Constellation astronaut would bring a moon rock back home, after more than 50 years.

I suspect that it is meant to draw "exploration" parallels between climbing Everest and going to the Moon - for publicity basically.

That's impressive. It's just one of those things that is symbolic, but I can't really explain why :(
