OHM G42-200 StarLiner WIP-302

Is Moach on the dev team for KSP?

Hats off to him if he is :tiphat: his work is excellent as the G42 is a great bird.

he is not on the team per se... he happens to be twin brother of the guy making it, and at times, said brother takes his advice/nagging into account along the way...

and every now and then, he pops in outta nowhere like no time has passes, once even talking about himself in the third person, for no discernible reason whatsoever...

the G42 actually predates the first coming of KSP, such that the early versions SDK even featured my GetVectorTool maxscripr doodad I put together to quickly (lazily) export 3d position markers into a .h file format for copy-paste

then a function runs a loop defining vc switches in bulk, as there are so many of them in there...

BTW -- the number of reasons keeping me too busy to do any orbitry at this point in time is of a greatness proportional to how such reasons are completely irrelevant, (and some nonsensical) to anyone who wasn't a part of at least two or more of them...

but anyhow - my "To Canada or Bust!" initiative has very just-this-weekisly delivered a very, VERY agreeable prognosis... mostly about me getting a job as lead game dev. again

- long story short -

no making addons for me right now - if nothing else, my PC/Big-Rig/Cockpit/Mad.... uhh... THIS THING has been taken down during the length of last night so I could relocate from my hotel-based lodgings to a more reasonably priced full-featured abode... such as regular human beings who don't exist more in the interblahgs than in the real world would choose for a dwelling...

I did manage to get a couple of behind-the-scenes pics of my flight-pit while I took it apart, finally showing exactly how the keyboard attaches to the tray...

but I think this has nothing to do with the G42 now, does it? well, the controls I have are in a direct relation layout with those on the '200... or more sensibly put - I just modeled the pit after my own controls setup (guilty as charged)

feels like it was Eons ago... I have a new very prominent gray hair at my scalps "center upper leading edge" that I distinctly recall not having since the "Great 2014 Housing Crisis" bore down upon me and the dog usually found in my immediate vicinity...

oh well, now I go get sushi - hunger... must eat... food....

cheers!

MOACH!!!!!

:bighug:

Glad to hear you're still around.

And whenever you're ready to start up again on the G42, you've got a test pilot waiting and eager. :)

Good to hear from you again Moach, I'm glad things are looking up house wise.
Are you Harv's twin brother?

That would explain a lot (ability to write code is genetic perhaps lol?).

Fly safe man

Nice looking model, excellent VC. Though, I can't operate it. No engine power, not even rcs thrusters. Can't get it off the ground or maneuver in space.

did you follow checklists?

That checklist isn't very helpful. Where's the key commands for this? Or at least a pictorial guide.

Buried somewhere in the development thread there are a few pictures of what/where the switches are. http://www.orbiter-forum.com/showthread.php?t=21197

I had to zoom in and out several times before I found everything. I don't think there are too many things that have hotkeys, this is more of a pilots craft, as it's got to be flown (rather than ridden) to orbit.

Half of the switches don't even function. For a plane this complex to operate, I'd imagine the developer releasing a quick start video guide is necessary.

Read the OP carefuly, for it contains much useful info;

Presenting the G42-200 Starliner SSTO spacecplane --  Work-In-Progress Mark 3'02 release

--snip--

Do mind, however - this is a Work-In-Progress release, so by all means - this thing is far from finished, many bugs and missing features still remain - check the development thread for bug reports and progress updates!

--snip--

The current documentation consists of the development thread and a few links contained within. I admit actually finding the switches in the cockpit is tricky, but I'm sure someone did a series of images showing where all the important ones are.

Try to remember that it is still a Work in Progress, which means not everything is working or working as it should.

As with all addons for orbiter you should read the manual, in this case that means some of the development thread.

Up and back from ISS. Up using both LaunchMFD (at <30km) and UAP; then back using BaseSync, AerobrakeMFD and PursuitMFD at 15 degrees Nose Up. Burn until about 10000km short when in Retrograde using Aerobrake at Alt 350k, swing around to 15NU and glide her in.

I do cheat, and Fuel Transfer the O2 into the Main Tank. But, I have made it to ISS in less than an orbit, with Canaveral on the horizon when I've docked.

She really could use some Retros, Moach, for safe Civil Transport.

I can't get the engine in WIP-303 to start either. I did exactly the same thing and had the same confusion this guy did here:

http://www.orbiter-forum.com/showthread.php?p=450293&postcount=1290

No luck. Engine spools up to 6% and then shuts down. Is there a step missing from the checklist for engine start? I did exactly what he did following the checklist. Are his pictures missing a step?

I tried for the first WIP first and was really amazed. Took it up to orbit a few times and landed back at the Cape. WIP-303 looks so much nicer, I was really looking forward to flying it.

That reminds me, is there a WIP-303 thread somewhere? I searched but didn't come up with anything, only this WIP-302 thread.

Moach, are you still developing on this, or what? I can't wait till this beautiful craft gets "final release" status!

Maybe the next thing to add should be some airbrakes. Landing is pretty hard without such things:)

Okay, followed the checklists, found the switches, and got her into orbit on the first try. (There's an important hint in the other thread: the checklist isn't perfectly correct. You have to throttle up the main engines before hitting the burners.)

I absolutely freaking LOVE this plane! This is exactly what I've been wanting in a runway takeoff spaceplane! Even with the various non-functioning WIP features, the StarLiner is just sooo much fun to fly. Love it!

Now I need to figure out how to carry payloads in this beauty. Start sending probes, building stations, all that kind of stuff. Between this and the XR2, my launch vehicle needs are completely taken care of.

yeah it is a beautiful add-on that is for sure, a ton of fun to fly. There is an attachment point if my memory serves that puts an item into the payload bay, but the bay is not that large, you will find yourself pretty limited in what you can carry up with you.

It's been a while since I used the G42-200, but from what I recall, isn't the payload bay like, space shuttle bay sized? And it just looks small compared to how big the spacecraft is. Either way, the size of this bay seems a lot more realistic for a SSTO spaceplane than compared to that of the XR5. Compare it to the Skylon's design, and how tiny the payload bay is compared to the rest of it, even though the bay is actually pretty decently sized and Skylon just makes it look small compared to how hulking huge the rest of the spacecraft is.

By the way, any word on G42-200's development?
