Mmmmm, smells like... Independence.
John Adams is on most all day on HBO. DVR is on, I have way too much to do today, but from what I've seen so far it's really good. Even my wife is wrapped up in it.
Too many people only think of the 4th as a day of shopping, hot dogs and fireworks. 235 years ago a small bunch of guys in a cramped room managed to agree with one another long enough to risk the gallows and make history. The resulting war devastated many lives, but now, so many years later, the two countries whose animosity made them enemies, are now each others staunchest allies.
I admit I'm a little odd, but I have to fight not to get a little misty eyed when I read (or hear well recited) the Declaration of Independence. There are too many fellow Americans who have so little care or regard for what our founding fathers risked. Or, for what other nations of the world would do to gain a small amount of the liberties that so many Americans take for granted.
Happy 4th everyone.
