... and I am not sure, if he is really loving it.

Really a strange kind of news, as much as his death makes me sad, I can't stop laughing when I am reading about the old jokes and movies with him. Maybe that is, what the death of a clown should be like. And he was, despite the poor quality of his later movies, one of the greatest as comedy actor.

"... and don't call me Shirley."

I have to agree about your last point, Urwumpe... I enjoyed his performances in several films, sad to hear that he has died. :(

Despite him being known mainly as a comedy actor, his most memorable appearance as far as I'm concerned is as Cmdr JJ Adams of space cruiser C-57D in Forbidden Planet, alongside Anne Francis, Walter Pidegon and Robby. Star Trek owes quite a dept to that movie.
RIP Leslie Nielsen. You sure showed that id monster that you meant business.

Indeed... that is easy to forget, looking at his later roles it's somewhat hard to believe that he acted in Forbidden Planet.

I am truly saddened by the loss of Leslie Nielsen. I had the opportunity to meet him a few years back and he was a geniunely nice guy who was gracious to his fans. His unique brand of comedy is something that I will sorely miss. In addition to being an actor, Leslie Nielsen was a Royal Canadian Air Force veteran, an Officer of the Order of Canada and has a star on Canada's Walk of Fame in Toronto. He was also the younger brother of the late Erik Nielsen who was the Deputy Prime Minister of Canada during the mid 1980s.

He will be mourned. But more so remembered for the joy he brought so many people through his movies.

The probe shall orbit at half the radius today.

He had two careers, as a dramatic actor and as a comic one, and delighted four generations of moviegoers. I think his greatest tribute are all of the people using his one-liner to sum up the disbelief in his passing.

"Surely you can't be serious?"

As someone said in another thread in another forum, "He was an entirely different kind of actor... altogether."

:( I liked his serious work as well as his comedies. Thank you Leslie, for everything!

I was watching the news article reporting his death and it's not in bad taste that i couldn't stop luaghing when they kept showing his clips.
I was also wanting to put a line of his as a ending but i realised there was just too many to choose from.
Rest in Peace.

I concur with all being said above.

Also from my side, THANK YOU, Leslie, for everything. I loved all your movies and your dry humor.

The world is a less funny place now.

Just finished watching "Airplane"...again...and I'm still laughing. Oddly enough, I just watched "Forbidden Planet" last week too. I guess I need to dust off my copies of "Police Squad" now...

He was a great actor, and an especially funny one, he will be missed.

Now... time to find my Flying High dvds.

Darren

I didn't see alot of his films, but I do remember the "don't call me Shirley" line. Though how everyone is quoting it upon Nielsen's death does make me feel a bit sorry for the poor screenwriter who actually penned the line and probably *won't* (or didn't) get it quoted when he dies (or died)... Still, I guess Nielsen acted it well enough that it got remembered, and that deserves credit.
