News Massive Dreamliner problems caused by Lithium-Ion batteries

Yeh, as soon as I saw that diagram with all the extra "support" components and materials I asked where's the weight/performance benefits?

There could be some maintenance bonuses from new form factors and shapes and pluggable modules. But those benefits could also be achieved with a more stable and proven chemistry.

Take whatever date is agreed upon and add three to six months to it," said Oliver Mcgee, a former US deputy assistant secretary of transportation.

"I don't think that you are going to see any type of quick fix or compromising on the FAA side

Reminds me of the Comet airliner, hopfully this one will succeed.

Surely a better plan would be to put the new design of battery container in an Airbus and use that!!!

It should fly in a Boeing... makes no sense to use an Airbus. Especially since the cabling in an Airbus is a miracle... it works despite trying everything to prevent exactly that.

Hadn't head of these batteries before:

Man.. these chemistries are getting crazier and crazier.

Well no news is good news. :P

The temporary fix of reinforcing the battery container has passed certification by the US FAA and Europe's EASA, clearing the 787 for flight. Just right now the first commercial 787 flight since January 13 is in the air with Ethiopian Airlines: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-22315317

Good to see these lovely planes back in air again!

If something goes wrong the news media immediately reports it. If there is good news the media lags behind.

The FAA approval already was announced on the Boeing home page last week :P
