Tanks for the Picture....get it TANKS!!

WOW nice pic....What model of tank is that? bigger question...why is there a tank driving down your street is your neighbourhood that bad?lol

The tracks on the street indicate at least one other tank drove by. How many where it and what else drove by?

For those that don't follow world events, today is the 60th anniversary (sp) of Russia's victory in WWII. Today is the first time since the end of the cold war that the celebrations have included a substantial military parade.

That will be 63rd Great Patriotic War victory anniversary.

And no wonder there was no heavy war machines in the previous years, considering the round bill the ones who lead got for the road repairs along tverskaya st. and leningradskiy prospect...

I wasn't expecting them to be practicing the parade on the actual location, so heavy bombers flying above my house on the 6th of May gave me some worrying thoughts.

The parade was far from the old specs - the marching troops was out of sync, the new president stumbled during the speech once and Lenin's mausoleum was covered behind a large wall.

Nevertheless, good to see that the heroes are still remebered.

Funny how videogames shape your perception. I have done endless battle with those things in Falcon 3.0 and gotten blown out of the sky too many times to remember...

They did mention VE Day on the radio here in the U.S., but for most people it was just a work day.

Some would argue that the defeat of Germany in WWII is an event of a continental scale, not World's. I doubt, however, that September 2 is a more recognized date in USA either.

Well, what is undoubtful that it's still a holiday in some of the former USSR countries. Memory is living here how our fathers faced a brink of the nation's extinction and repelled it off nevertheless. Face of the world would be different, had they did not.

Actually, it is a bigger deal in the U.S., because for the U.S. VE Day wasn't the end of the war, yet. Many troops were being shipped from Europe to the Pacific theater to get ready for the coming invasion of Japan, so they didn't think they had too much to celebrate, yet.

Ok, you've dissolved my doubts.

Thanks to a particularly lucky and observant photographer, Americans remember the end of the war like this, a sailor kissing a random woman on the street in New York.

Iconic images like this tend to stick in people's minds, even those of us who weren't yet born have seen this photo dozens of times.

He-he, and all tanks will be like this...

My 2 cents: Air Force fly-by over Moscow

Here's what I saw yesterday on my way to work. Shortly after flying over the Red Square, the formations have been pulling out over Taganskaya square. Sorry for a bit shaky footage at first, I've been caught by surprise. :tumbleweed:

Judging by their look, they were...

Formation 1: 1 An-124 & 2 Su-30

Formation 2: 1 Tu-160 & 2 MiG-31

Formation 3: 1 Il-78, 1 Tu-95 & 2 MiG-29

Formation 4: 1 Il-78, 1 Su-34 & 1 Su-24

Formation 5: 3 Tu-22M

Formation 6: 4 Su-25

Formation 4: 5 Su-27 & 4 MiG-29 (Russian Knights and The Swifts aerobatic squadrons)

Wow, that's cool looking. Was there an airshow or something? What audience were they flying for?

The last formation really shows the difference in size between the MiG-29 and the SU-27. I didn't realize the Flanker (or whatever it's called at home) was so large.
