The Neptune-1 is a low-cost medium launcher conceived to lift payloads in range of 10/13 t in Low Earth Orbit, as commercial and military satellites or resupply modules for the International Space Station. His overall configuration is a derivation of the Uranus rocket, realized for the Poderosa I capsule, another well known add-on of the Orbiter Italia Forum. Neptune-1 is a two-stage rocket; an optional Fregat third stage / space tug (included in the package) can be added for GTO and GEO launches.
The Neptune-1B is a version with a more powerful, cryogenic second stage powered by a single J-2S engine and a payload capacity of about 17 t to Low Earth Orbit.

New features of the version 2.51:
  • Improved config files: better separation of the fairings.
  • Updated documentation.

New features of the version 2.5:

  • Updated package for the Capo Passero 2.0 base.
  • New pad effects: engine exhausts.
  • Removed launch scenarios from Aurora base (addon not longer required).
  • Updated meshes and textures.
  • Added the fairing bmp files for nose cone customization (thanks to Phantom Cruiser for the idea).
  • "Quicklaunch" scenarios.
  • PDF documentation.
  • A "bonus" launcher...
The following add-ons are required:
Vinkas Multistage2
Vinkas Spacecraft3 (with Orbiter 2006-P1 patch, included in the package).
Orbiter 2010 require the stage.dll patch (included in the package).

For the Capo Passero scenarios, is also required the ASVI base - Capo Passero, V2.0, by Orbiter Forum Italia.

No feedbacks on this addon? :(

Actaully, I've been meaning to leave feedback! I really like it. It's a great little rocket and I've managed to create some good scenarios with it. I am a fan of the Chapman Probe series but the launchers for it are incompatible with Orbiter 2010. I created a couple of launch scenarios to launch the Chapman probes with the Nepture Rocket.

Outstanding job!

Thank You! :tiphat:

I'm working again on this rocket. I want to release a slightly larger version ("Neptune-1B" ;) ) with a cryogenic second stage, powered by a single J-2 engine instead of the two Merlin Vacuum Lox/Kerosene engines, for a payload capacity of about 17,000 kg.

Here a couple of screenshots:

Looks like an Ares I, but in fact is lighter and more compact.

Very good addon, no problems at this end.

Will this addon receive an update like your other addons ?
I have a low budget so I like to use low cost launchers :)

I went on the italian orbiter forum, thanks google chrome for automated translation.
Some informations about this addon, I hope this is ok if I post here :
- an update will be made with a new launch vehicle (Neptune-2)
- meshes for the engines are done, it will probably use 4 AJ-26 engines for the first stage.
- payload capacity similar to the Jarvis-S (seems to mean 20t to LEO)

I didn't see any timeline so it will be available when it's done.

Neptune 2 will be powered by four AJ-26-62 engines. In its basic form, will have the same kerolox upper stage of the Neptune 1, powered by two Merlin Vacuum engines.
Even in this initial configuration, the payload capability will be about the same of the Neptune 1B.
Here an integration test on Anim8or of the Neptune 2 with its main payload, the small spaceplane "Delphinus", realized by Robitaille-Fan (Pete Conrad on the italian forum).

Delphinus will be vinka-based, but the cockpit is already configured for a future dll implementation.

Some bad news for the Neptune 2 fans!
For some reason, the performances of the new rocket in Orbiter are lower than calculated. A redesign of the first stage is needed, with a more aggressive t/w ratio. Five AJ-26-62 or three AJ-26-500.

Meanwhile, a replacement for the Delphinus mini-spaceplane is already available: the Jarvis S. This 20-tons-to-LEO rocket has the required performances, with margin, then the new rocket is unnecessary at the moment. So, for now, Neptune 2 is on hold.

Delphinus will be released soon, as separate package.

Ah, love the AJ-26. Best ISP of any LOX/RP-1 engine around. And they're being refurbished in town!

Hello,I would like to add attachment points so the neptune rocket could be picked,by lets say by a crane,or carry it on a truck, but I am confused about this, since this rocket is a multistage2.So what configs do I need to make,or change to pull this off?

I used the file opening program t open it, and it wont work in orbiter. It always says critical error every time I open it. HELP:idk:

I used the file opening program t open it

Which means what exactly? What file opening programming?

Please provide DETAILS to help us to help you:

1. Does orbiter work with the DEFAULT scenarios?
2. Can you paste the ORBITER.LOG?
3. How did you install the addon?

Sorry, Someone told me to use 7Z, a 3rd party file opening program because it cant open under windows. I tried that and It came up with Critical Error. I moved the correct files into the correct folders.
