OFSS II - Project Info & Discussion Thread

Tex has given me the go-ahead for this so here it is, the sequel to OFSS!

You must join the social group before you will be able to post in this forum!

OFSS II will be an alternate reality space station to the International Space Station (AKA lets propose that the ISS got canceled because of the Columbia disaster), but here's another catch -- in this alternate reality, Commercial is a far greater contributor to space exploration. SpaceX and Orbital have contracted NASA for several space shuttle missions STS-142 - STS-170, as well as several Ariane 6's for the larger modules. Catch is.. and some of you might find this difficult if you struggle with shuttle scenarios, UPDATE: OFSS2 will now use XR2's and XR5's later in the year. Though throughout the summer, it will be shuttle all the way.
The station is in a 28.5 degree orbit at ~592 km high.


First of all I need pilots for the missions, so if any of you would be willing to apply for this, then I would be very grateful. Please apply by posting in this thread, be sure to include which vessels you are capable of flying.

I will be posting the mission scenarios in the 'Pre-Flight Scenarios' thread as they come out, first for Pete to test in case I missed anything. When finished with your missions, please post the completed scenario from your current state file in the 'Post Flight Scenarios' thread so I may configure the next mission.

I will post screen shots of the finished scenario when I'm done. Feel free to post your own screen shots from your missions as well.

I have 22 missions ready to go for pilots, this scenario was one just posted for me. STS-142 will be next and it will include the Pilot, technical details (orbital inclinations) landing sites, mission duration, number of EVAs, Orbiter (OV-***) that being said I need a pilot for it lol.

And yea, the patch is crap. If anyone wants to design and post a better one I'm all for it.

Nice job on the pictures.
And kudos for already having the missions already planned, I would think the only thing now you'd need are pilots. I'd like to sign up, but I still (after all this time) can't really make the shuttle land where I want, I'm getting better, mostly luck over skill.
Are you going to form a group for this?

Thanks!! If shuttle's not your strong point -- I can offer you the first flight of the SpaceX Dragon to the station. Regarding a group, I imagine I'll make one very soon! BTW regarding piloting, I'll assign missions in order asked (aka PhantomCruiser will get the 1st Dragon flight or 3rd flight to the station, although the next flight is a space shuttle mission so the first person who accepts a shuttle missions will get the next mission)

I'd like to sign up too. I can fly any of these spacecrafts, except the Shuttle (same problem as PhantomCruiser, can't land it on a previously chosen location). BTW, my condolences too.

FYI: I've created a new forum for OFSS II and the basic threads to get you all started. I've made you a mod of this forum Kyle so that you may create threads, edit posts, etc. as needed for the project. Only you should be able to post a new thread here, while any Orbinaut who has joined the OFSS II social group will have posting permissions in these threads. The threads are also viewable directly from the social group page.

What I'm probably going to do is assign a mission each week (you can fly the mission as assigned to you whenever you want), but I do need someone to fly STS-142, as thats OFSSII's second mission.

And also regarding shuttle missions, if you struggle with landing them you can just undock, exit orbiter and post your current scenario on Post Flight Scenario thread http://www.orbiter-forum.com/showthread.php?t=19837 (note you must post all your missions once completed on here)
