Orbiter Meeting (2009-2010)?

Activites: Based on individual budget such as tours, Astronomy if some were willing to let others see the stars threw there telescopes. General Orbiter lunch and discussion.

Time Frame: May 2009-late July 2009

Yes? No? Maybe?:beach:
I like the idea of a KSC meeting, but I think the timeframe should be centered around december instead. For one thing, a nice benefit of florida is the mild winter for those who might travel from more northern locations. For another thing, winter is the best time for florida astronomy imho. By summer the afternoon thunderstorms tend to get in the way almost daily. I'd be willing to provide some good telescope observing if I still happen to live in florida at that time.

Houston sounds like kind of a stretch for me, but who knows? I will be 18 in a few months, so as long as can afford a plane ticket and hotel (since gas would probably be much more expensive than both), I might be able to make it. But right now, I cannot definitely say either way.

KSC is pretty much the same story.

Well it would seem were stuck. So let's put it to a vote. either way I will find some way to make it but it will have to be in the summer I have daughter who has school.

alright simply post where you would like the meeting to be. and add the tally of votes per post

Kennedy space center. 1 vote

If it's during a shuttle launch: make it 3 (will need a flyer to convince parents)

As one of the Houston-area people, I'm good with going to JSC/Ellington next October. (I hope to go to the airshow THIS year too ;)) Until I actually have money, I'm afraid I probably can't go anywhere too far. I REALLY hope to go to at least one shuttle launch though... I just don't know when. :P

1 vote for Houston!

P.S. I'd take my parents... well... they'd take me. I probably won't be driving much next October. :P
(I'll be 2 months short of 16 then)

My parents are against Houston because You-know-who is from Texas (No, they're not talking about you, Tex)

3 for Houston? Well, it looks like the other one has a problem now.
(Get the hint?)

My parents are against Houston because You-know-who is from Texas (No, they're not talking about you, Tex)

Just tell them that is stupid, backwards thinking and that there are almost 23,000,000 people that are not "you-know-who."

I may be spending some time in Maine during that timeframe, but I think Houston would be the best choice.

Or a party at Martin's house.

It really all depends on the timing.
5/21/2009 I will be at Ksc for the shuttle launch
and summer 2010 I will be in houston for my daughter to go to space camp.

Also I'm working on that permission form. What I will make is a very rough draft as some of us are going to have to supply phone numbers for the parents. I'm a father and i wouldn't let my child go anywhere unless I talked to the adults first.

And he's name is bingo

Seems many will have school during October, granted the air show is on the weekend it wouldn't allow you time to get here and back without missing a day or two. As for other locations, I already mentioned Houston is all I will be able to do first. I am looking into getting transportation for us once you all arrive so you wont have to spend money on gas driving around Houston and I am also looking into lodging so hopefully I can arrange either free lodging or lodging at a reduced price so hotel rooms won't cost you so much. You will need to plan on gas or plane ticket costs to get you here, but after that I am going to do everything I can to reduce the costs so maybe more people can come.

When in the summer would be a good date for a Houston meeting? Maybe around the 4th of July?

4th of July is probably the worst time. Planes will be busy and the roads packed.
I'd suggest the very beginning of August.
