ORI-01 "GunSlinger" is a go!
The delta-shuttle is being loaded up with the cargo and we expect to see launch at around 1630GMT this evening from Acsension Island private space complex in the Atlantic.

The Mission is to put into orbit a new generation of telescope called the ORIGazer/OGTAS (OrionGalaxy Telescopic Array Sensor) this satellite will have an expected lifespan of about 1 year and in that time should answer alot of puzzling questions about our galaxy and beyond!

as we speak the ORI-01 Delta-Shuttle is being readied for its maiden flight and all looks good so far!

The Delta-Shuttle will launch into an orbit approximatly 500Km x 500Km and then release its payload for function, it will then return to Acsension Island about 22hours after launch.

The flight Roster for this launch involves:
Capt. Michael Broadhead (5 years of space missions)
Eng. Bradley Banister (Specialist engineer for 10 years)
Eng. Christopher Coles (Engineer with NASA for 5 years)

Stay Tuned for Mission Updates and pictures live from the launch site!

Mission Update:

Final Preperations are being made on the Delta-Shuttle Vessel to make it ready for its SSTO with its onboard cargo of 3 pax and a Satellite.

The Passengers and cargo are all ready loaded and the ship is just going through a check stage to make sure it is fit to fly into space today.

once this check has been completed the shuttle will taxi out onto the runway and launch from Acsension Island at 1630GMT at an azimuth of 90 degrees.
and an altitude of 500KM x 500KM.

Mission Update:

We have just received word from Mission Control that ORI-01 Is a go! and the Delta-Shuttle is currently taxiing out towards the runway!

Here we see the Delta-Shuttle carrying its payload; ORIGazer, waiting at the runway Hold point for a Altea Aerospace Falcon to take off.

Mission Update:

WE HAVE LIFT OFF!
The ORI-01 Gunslinger Vessel has just lifted off from Acsension Island at 33minutes past the hour (1633GMT)
And we have a good looking accent profile and tragectory.
we will post images as soon as they get back to us here in england!

Mission Update:

The crew of the Delta-Shuttle Gunslinger have reached their orbit and are going through a couple of after launch checklists.
After this they will do a TV broadcast from inside the shuttle for analisys back at mission control befor going to sleep for the day.

the next time we should hear from the crew of GunSlinger should be around 22/11/2010 1530GMT.

untill then from all of us here at mission control, Acsension Island and onboard GunSlinger... Good Night!

Btw... the nickname of this shuttle comes from one of my favourite bands songs...

Mission Update:

The crew of ORI-01 GunSlinger have finished their after-launch and orbital checklists and have just finished off their broadcast back to mission control at Acsension Island.
The crew will now proceed to their sleep period for the day since they have been awake for almost 20hours for this launch doing various jobs and inspections.

We will have more reports and updates tomorrow afternoon on the ORI-01 Mission, untlill then, from all of us at ORIon... goodbye!

22 hours? that's a heck of a rush and means the crew would have been up for almost thirty hours. not good for a landing.

Why not leave them up a few days?

hmmm... never thought of that, i was just saying how long it would take with time warp and no crew rest time but yeah guess to make it more realistic il extend the mission to about 48-96 hours (2-4days) so the crew get a good amount of rest time etc

The way I run a VSA is to try to make it as real as possible, that includes flight days, proper rest periods and time to do the mission & deal with problems.

for some reason not all of my images will work through imageshack so expect reduced amount of screen shots. sorry.

i do stuff as realistly as possible as i can normally but for this VSA im going to go to a whole new level of realistic-isity
(is that a word? eh, it is now! hehehe)

i have made a kindof Pilot Roster type thing and something i like to call the Mission Report Centre, which is basicly i pilot report for captains of space vessels (for those who dont no what pilot reports are, go google them)

i wish i could make it more realistic in the way of economics and environmentally aware etc, with prices and what not on space craft and payloads but that take alot of time of which i dont have to create some kind of thing to do it with.

so il just carry on finding ways to make stuff more realistic along the way.

Im also going to stop using time warp. and anything else that isnt technologicly possible.

I will also take down an inflight report type thing, which has information on everything the flight and crew does, from spacewalks to rest periods to make sure everythings right and realistic.

Mission Update:

After yesterdays launch the crew of ORI-01 have settled into their new environment very well, the launch went as planned and was completed flawlessly.

Once in orbit the crew completed their checks, broadcast, had a bit of food then happily settled into their 24 hour rest period.

Day 2 of the mission see's the crew of Delta-Shuttle waking up for a long day of space walking to get the new ORIGazer Satellite into functional orbit.

The craft is currently orbiting at an altitude of 500.1Km and with the ECC at 0.000 Its orbital altitude never changes from PEA to APA, perfect conditions for a telescopic satellite.

At about 1800GMT the crew of the GunSlinger will Execute their first EVA of the mission, which will involve the release and activation of the satellite.

As soon as reports and images come in from mission control we will post them here.

Untill then... stay tuned

Mission Update:

After about 5hours of solid EVA and a malfunction onboard the satellite, the crew of ORI-01 have managed to get their new telescope into orbit thanks to both engineers aboard the craft.

"It was a long and grueling task and the failure aboard the satellite didnt make mine or eng. Christopher Coles lives easier!" says engineer Bradley Banister.

The first communications from the satellite are expected to be recieved here at mission control sometime tomorrow once the satellites main computers have started up.

Since this EVA was done at night time, not many images could be taken but we did receive this nice one from ORI-01 about 15minutes ago...

In this image we can see the Satellite fully deployed but the computers are not yet running...

For now the crew needs to get some rest after 5hours full of EVA work so from both mission control and ORI-01... Good night!

Mission Update:

TOUCH DOWN!
The ORI-01 Gunslinger mission was a complete sucsess after the ship touched back down at Acsension island at approximately 1831GMT this evening after a long and hard re-entry.

Orions first mission was a complete sucsess with only minor issues with the satellite costing them 3hours more work then.

With such a valient sucsess on its very first mission, Orion has big plans for the future including a base on the moon and even going as far as mars!

We will rejoin the action later with some live video feeds and pictures from mission control once the crew has been debreifed.

So after a 3day mission this new VSA seems to be settling into the hectic life of the space business very well.

thats all from us for now... join us again when we have more updates for you.

untill then... bye bye

Update:

With debriefing completed mission control happily gave us these picture updates from Acsension Island...

Mission Control also gave us these pictures from the deorbit cam and also the chase plane...

Re-entry!

Chase plane one

Cleared to land!

We have also just got comfirmation that mission control have received the first messages from ORIGazer, indicating its systems are all working fine!
The satellite will need a whole week of testing first befor we can start to take pictures with it.

Well that brings us to the end of our 3 day mission with Orion here at Acsension Island... We expect to see Ori-2 lifting off from here very soon and we will be covering all the updates once again from mission control!

Untill then, thank you for following us with this maiden voyage into the void with the new and upstart VSA ORIon!
Have a nice day! bye bye!
