Steve Jobs, Founder of Apple dies !!

He dedicated his whole life to his vision, starting from nearly scratch. Seems that his health was really poor when he retired, since he died shortly after.

:salute:

Any news about his gigantic pile of money? He said publicly he has no intention of being the richest man in the cemetery, yet hasn't contributed to any charities on record.

Don't get me wrong, I believe every death is tragic. Around 150 000 people will die today, around 10% of them from some form of cancer. They will not "rest in peace", nor will they "pass on", the pattern that makes up their consciousness will be destroyed and they will cease to exist.

If we were to genuinely mourn every single one of them, the whole of humanity would be a permanent emotional wreck. For the moment, the most sane response to all the death around us is to work towards eventually preventing it. To quote Yudkowsky, "we have to work faster".

Jobs is not forgotten.

If you can understand spoken (and sung) Russian well, I recommend listening http://argonov.ru/2032.html Interesting thoughts related to what you told.

Man, you must be barrels o' fun at parties, always with a vulture on your shoulder...

I didn't think much of Mr Jobs at one point, and I mostly dismissed Apple products as "trend driven".

The more I hear about what people have to say about Jobs, the more and more respect I have for the guy. At age 56, such a pity...

We need to stop wasting our research efforts or ridiculous vain things such as "cures" for baldness, "cures" for ageing and we need to redouble our efforts to bring an end to this horrible plague that in some way will eventually touch each and every one of us.

Don't dismiss efforts for such "cures" as "vain". I don't think that's a very wise thing to do- both of those areas of research you cited (even regarding something as trivial as research into baldness) could lead to knowledge or technology that could be used to treat cancer.

I am sorry for your loss, Mantis. Truely a horrible disease.

That's nice. Now that you've shared your belief, would anyone mind if I describe how I plan to dance around a planet-sized ball of cotton-candy as a golden statue of pure energy, after my demise? ;)

It's funny how you equate objective description with religious belief.

For anyone else interested, the links under "Презентационная экранизация" have English subtitles.

I was thinking at a CEO as colossal as Jobs. The only name that came in my mind was Elon Musk. I hope history will prove that I'm not wrong by much.

No, no it isn't funny at all, when 'objective description' and 'religious belief' both misbehave and cross the lines of what they should and shouldn't be.

But this is not a place to disrespect someone by sparking annoying off-topic debate, and I doubt it would be appropriate to do so.

RIP, Steve.

RIP, Steve. He was a visionary as well as a great human being. You will not be forgotten.

Good Bye, Steve

It has to be said, he knew that he had this kind of cancer since 2004, but survived it far longer than expected, usually you have less than a year to live, when you get this diagnosis. But it looks like Steve Jobs had simply no time to die.

I am no Apple fan, I quite dislike a lot of it, but I am influenced a lot by Steve Jobs. And believe me, you can always use a good RDF in your life. I would even go so far to say, that Steve Jobs managed to distort the reality really to the better for most of us.

But also, there is a price on the other side of it: The typical Apple fan pays for overpriced products assembled in sweatshops.

RIP Steve Jobs

Your impact on the world of technology and the world itself was so great, and that is something that shouldn't go without notice. Thanks Mr. Jobs

Just wondering; would Orbiter-Forum be here without Steve? Heck, would Orbiter even be here? :2cents:
