Things in orbiter that really get on your nerves

The fact that standard hover control keys don't work the same way as main engines' control keys, and there's no hover shutoff key (like * for mains shutoff).

Yeah, a hover throttle would be nice.

While we're talking about hoverjets, I'm going to say the difficulty of landing tail-sitters, due to not being able to change the direction of defined hoverjets or the direction a pilot can see when in the cockpit view.

People who criticise software and add-ons which are all provided for free. Particularly as many of the 'problems' are just as typical in a package purchased from a mainstream company.

Only happens once in a while, but it does get on my nerves when it happens. When you are flying the Shuttle Fleet and enter ITEM 777 on the MFD, and during the countdown the mains ignite but the SRBs do not.

(not a criticism - I love the shuttle fleet and Orbiter - just a glitch that happens once in a while...)

When sometimes, for some reason (probably inadvertent joystick/throttle/thruster commands by me), your DG makes the change from "landed" to "orbiting" (technically, according to the scenario.txt) and using 1000x time accel causes you and your beloved crew to be launched at 0.2c into space.

When doing a manual docking approach, after coasting toward your final target for a few minutes with everything set up perfectly, you forget to check if you're in rotational or translational RCS mode, and pulsing what you thought was going to be a touch of upward thrust, instead rotates your nose up; resulting in backing off and coming in again.

However, what REALLY gets on my nerves about Orbiter? It's addictiveness.

I completely share your opinion pete.dakota. And that is the only thing i can say. Fortunately, sometimes, i lost the control of my mouse, my pointer, in a box. Everyone should know that it's not a bug.

When you finally do a painful docking in SSU, then switch to another ship and it freezes up and you lose all you saved data. Like I just did a few minutes ago
:compbash:

When the development team of SSU never releases a new version, and they keep it all to themselves!!!! :P

With all due respect, what is that supposed to mean? Mustard is a brilliant add-on developer and modeler, and I have found his work to be top-quality! Are you sure you are installing everything correctly?
I wasn't complaining about the quality of Mustard's work. I thoroughly enjoy every addon that works on my computer. However the problem is, out of the 20 or so addons I have downloaded from that site, about five work. Orbiter loads just fine until the very last moment, when I get a dialogue box that states "Orbiter.exe has encountered a problem yadayadadayada"

I've put all his addons into a clean installation and I've run the Orbiter diagnostic tool, but no dice. Many of his addons aren't compatible with my computer and I'm really at a loss as to why.

That can be irritating, but you just need to think ahead. Especially on low gravity celestial bodies such as the moon or Mars.

I do understand that CTDs are frustrating. Remember, though, that most of the add-ons on Mustard's add-on download page were not written by him: of the 68 add-ons on the download page fewer than 1/3 were written by Mustard (he developed 14 [20%] of them and co-developed 4 others). In any case, if you get a CTD with a given add-on please re-test it in a clean installation and post the details to the Add-on Support and Bugs forum so the author(s) and/or other users can troubleshoot it.

I will be sure to do so. No offense meant to the Francophone community.

@eveningsky339 - Just wondering, I'm sure you've checked this, but just in case you haven't, the orbiter.log file in your main Orbiter directory can tell you a lot. It will tell you exactly what point in the load process that things went wrong.

When you forget to jettison enough fuel from the DGIV to get your mass < 19k prior to reentry, and don't realize it until you get to 100k altitude and try to engage the reentry autopilot...(not a good time to remember to check the vessel state...) DOH!

That is also getting on my nerves. My Logitech Extreme 3D Pro Joystick has a bad yaw control so I need to calibrate it every time when I launch windows. And I saw hundreds of other people having the same problem.
Every Logitech joystech I've ever owned has had that same problem. I gave up Logitech altogether. Saitek makes a great Joystick if you can drop the $$$, but be sure to go for the Pro version.

I had a few Logitech Extreme Digital 3D's and the twist-rudder control always messed up after a few months of play. I just figured that's how long they could last or something. Then I got thing called a Saitek X-45 and I've not had a problem with it ever. I've had it only for 2 or 3 years now though so time will tell?

Things about Orbiter... well, one thing I'd like, and maybe just haven't found, is how to edit keymap. If it's possible, could someone let me know?

Thanks,

TRON

You know what gets on my nerves with Orbiter?

When things go up, they always come back down? Why is that?????

I assume you are talking about remapping key functions. You can do that by editing your C:\Orbiter\keymap.cfg file.

Wow, I can't believe of all this time I've been using Orbiter that I never noticed that file before! That is useful!

That stuttering effect when Orbit the earth at 10x accelaration.
