Hi guys,

Just started out with Orbiter, loving it!

I'm working through tutorials in 2006+P1, have 2010 but a particular addon appealed that is only working in 2006.

I've got a couple of projects I would love to build from Gerry Anderson's UFO series to use in Orbiter. This is how I came across the software and this forum. I was wondering if there was a ready made space simulator available and a quick google revealed there was. Found some addons already done for the UFO and Space 1999 series but working through the basic tutorials. (guess who found out how easy it is to bounce off the atmosphere on re-entry yesterday )

Need to walk before I run, so I'll probably be bugging you all with daft newbie questions for some time to come .

Welcome to the forum. :welcome:
We were all daft newbies at one point, you might find some of the simpler troubles/issues with the search function, but if you wind up with 200 pages to sort through it won't help much.

One of the troubles is some of the language used in spaceflight, ApA, PeA, Prograde, node points, etc. Knowing the vernacular can help you to ask better question (which of course leads to better and faster responses).

Go Play In Space is often a good starting point. It can be pretty basic, but that's the intention. Build the foundation, if you get the meaning...

Have fun, and happy orbiting!

Welcome to Orbiter! :hailprobe: Also, I'm up for some new addons based around UFO, so you have my full support.

Thanks for the welcome!

Downloaded Go Play in Space, looks like just what I need!

Currently attempting my first docking with the ISS. After about 40 orbits I finally figured the docking MFD wasn't slaved to the ISS XPDR frequency lol. When I realised my newbie mistake, I thought it was best to save and attempt the docking in a fresh session this afternoon.

Really enjoying the challenge of it all and finding the visual aspects of the MFDs very intuitive

One quick question for my future projects, probably better places to ask on the forum but thought I would throw it in here whilst I find my way around.

Is it possible to put a satellite in a low earth orbit in such a way that it is always on the opposite side of the earth to the moon?

This appears to have been the concept behind SID the space intruder detector in the UFO TV series. The idea being that the sneaky UFOs couldn't get to earth without being detected by either SID or Moonbase.

The Projects at the top of my list are:

1: Moon Transporter/Moon Module, this was a two part ship consisting of the transporter that is VTOL that takes the Moon Module to the edge of the atmosphere. The module then continues on to the moon. On return the module re-enters the atmosphere for a rendezvous with the transporter for return to earth.

2: SID, the space intruder detector, Shado's eyes and ears in space.

I don't think these have been done before so they present the best challenge for me, might follow up with some of the other vehicles from the show afterwards.

I watched the first episode of that on youtube, I liked watching the UFO blasting the cars off the road.

Welcome

Docked with the ISS this morning. Took a while to stop thinking 'pilot' and start thinking astronaut ;) I think though I was a bit unlucky as I arrived with the docking port on the other side of the ISS which led to some confusion on my part. Eventually got the right side of the markers and took her in, very slowly!

Been searching more and found that the two UFO projects I had planned may have already been done, so will be downloading those for a look. :)
