What's your average FPS in Orbiter with your system?

My specs:
Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium 64 Bit
Intel Core 2 Duo @ 3.16GHz
4GB DDR2 G.SKILL RAM @ 1066MHz
ATI HD 4870 GDDR5 512MB PCI-E GFX Card
640GB Seagate Hard Drive @ 7200RPM
Sound Blaster Audigy SE 24-Bit PCI
1024x768x32 @ 70Hz Resolution

Total Average FPS on High Settings: 85 FPS

Note: Would there be ways to increase performance also?

FPS in Orbiter is not comparable between Vista and XP. It's not uncommon for an XP user to get 200 or more fps. See this thread for info.

That said, I've got:
Windows 7 Build 7113
Intel Core i7 920 @ 3.2GHz
6GB DDR3 RAM @ 1600 MHz
nVidia GeForce GTX 285 1GB PCI-E Graphics card
1680x1050x32 @ 60Hz Resolution

I also get around 85 FPS. Under Vista and Win7, Orbiter is bound by CPU clock rate (since it doesn't make use of multiple threads). Our CPUs are similar speeds, so we get similar framerates, regardless of graphics card or resolution.

As for ways to increase performance, make sure you're using Doug's VistaBoost.

Orbiter treats our CPU's as one Core right?

So our FPS arise from our CPU's despite the other settings? I see.

Would VistaBoost even help XP?
If you have ClearType turned on on XP, then VistaBoost might help; however, I don't think that ClearType has as large of an effect on XP.

ClearType is off by default on XP, but on by default on Vista; that's what VistaBoost is for.

Orbiter can only really use one logical processor. On your C2D, if you have HT enabled, you have four logical processors. On my i7, I have eight logical processors. Orbiter is only using one of them, so it's only able to use 1/4 (approximately) of the power of your CPU and only 1/8th of the power of mine. In theory, anyway. In reality, if you don't have much running on your computer at the time, it will effectively be using the full physical core, so it would be closer to 1/2 of the power of your CPU and 1/4 of the power of mine.

I rarely get anything lower than 130 FPS with high detail. This highest is over 600.

Just a note that C2D's don't have HT. That's one of the things they brought back with the Core i7.

I rarely get anything over 30 fps. I can get 60 when running in a window mode which I often do out of frustration. But full screen with 32 bit color it's as low as 18 fps. Lower the screen size to under 1100 width and 16 bit color and it can get up to 32 fps.
Acer Aspire AX1700 Vista 64 bit, 4gig ram, intel-pentium dual core.

Just tried downloading the vistaboost from
http://www.dougsorbiterpage.com/index-3.html
It appears ok in the zip file with size of 43 Kb or so if that means it's ok. But both the dll file and the readme had 0 bytes size and the dll won't activate under the modules tab in the Orbiter launchpad. Strange.

Edit: I didn't trust winzip so I googled for something else and found 7z. It seemed to get a 96 Kb dll file and that activated correctly. Needed to play with screen size a bit to stop distortion but now it's up to 53 fps with screen of 1280-960 and 32 bit color. That's at least double and nearly triple what it was before. I think I should take my copy of winzip on a hang glider flight and drop it into some canyon.

What are your system specs?

Also, will Orbiter later be updated to support multiple cores? Anyone know?
