You should also note that most religions do not directly advertise. There are only a handful of denominations that 'demand' it. These include 7th Day Adventists, JWs, AOG(To some degree) and several other more unorthodox denominations.

Then i supose the Swedish Church is unorthodox :3

The religion that's true needs to convince people of its truth because the world generally is a better place when people act in accordance with reality. The religions that aren't true need to try to convince people so as to keep the true religion from getting complacent.

Exactly. I was expressing my own ideal of how a religion should leave people alone. Freedom of speech, religion etc. is the most valuable thing we have.
They have the right and should never be stripped of it.

I'm not so sure about this - missionary work *can* be beneficial in places where humanitarian aid is needed. It depends on the application.

By that I mean... If you help people because you believe it's the right thing to do, and you feel better off for doing it, this is good. If you require that the people you help subscribe to your beliefs before you help them... that's bad.

I don't really agree with this. A lot of missionary work brings hope to people in terrible situations and whilst I don't necessarily agree with the religious aim of it, I do think that bringing people hope and making them feel as though they have a purpose is a good thing.

This is why the Cassegrain telescope was invented by a Catholic priest, and another Catholic priest came up with the Big Bang theory, among other things.

What stalls progress is not faith, it's monolithic power structures whether based on religion or anything else.
