Request Any SLS and Orion MPCV in development?

Not sure about ease. I imagine it like a tank. If I make a sc3 version then someone can edit the specs and then I make into a dll and add ummu.

Any takers?

But have run into an issue. When the booster fall off I get a CTD.

I have a cfg for both slsstg2 and SLSCore2

You forgot to move the FAIRING line along with the fairings, and the CVEL strings for both the fairings and the interstage are incomplete. Both could be the problem, so to fix things you add this line to the upperstage:

FAIRING 2 1.0 0.0 1.0 0.0

and delete the ATTACHMENT line on the upperstage and the FAIRING line on the core.

As for the CVEL error, I'll quote Sputnik for the Velcro Rockets manual:

PAYLOAD probe probe probe 0 0 22.25 140000.0 0 0.0 1.0

This creates a payload, named probe, with a meshname of probe, and will create probe.cfg when jettisoned. Put it at (0,0,22.25), make it mass 140,000 kg, and load it up with fuel (1.0).

From what I can tell, it looks like the mesh name parts are missing.

On another note, I've been doing some testing to see if I can make block one of this rocket preform as advertised, but some of the numbers in the configs are clearly off. I'll PM you with my revisions tomorrow.

Wow, you're building the next generation AMSO.

I'm curious about your mission plans, I'm excited to see you've already started on the asteroid capture and return vehicle and some landers. Which landers are you considering? The defunct Altair for lunar? The Copernicus/Asimov concepts from the Constellation plan?

I have to admit I really wanted to simulate the Constellation plan as detailed in this video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uUBhn3_P3hU

Well, with Constellation down, I'm not sure If we should use Altair. The SLS is designed for the new Orion MPCV and new Mars concepts. We don't have enough information to make an advanced SLS Orion project now. Even so, I do agree: I think this is going to become the new AMSO, even if it is through multiple people. The Space Launch System projects is going to fill the space shuttle and apollo. I think your on the right track. Can't wait to see them on the forum, even if it is just an SLS! :salute:

OK. Here is the new pad and tower. I am not sure about location on the arms, though. One thing that I thought about with a Block 1 the crew hatch would be lower than the block 2. So I wonder how the crew would get in if it is so high up?

On the Block2. I removed those lines and made changes. As you can see the meshes are there.

On the crawler. I got a mesh but I need to fix it. Coming form Sketchup some parts are facing backwards.

On that video. With a mesh that is all possible.

SSU includes a fully operational Crawler Transporter: http://www.orbiter-forum.com/showthread.php?t=2641&page=17

It's ML-agnostic which means it doesn't care what kind of ML/MLP it is transporting as long as it has the correct attachment point. It does however rely on the LC-39 that is included with SSU and it it is not a "clean pad" meaning it has the FSS/RSS.

Sadly I agree, Altair does seem dead and buried now. But I'd still want to fly one in the virtual world and in some way we're going to need a lander. Maybe not one as complicated as the Mars lander proposed in Constellation.

Can you get the lander from that add on. I can see if I can get it.
Then could load as a payload. Not sure how it was launched though

no meshes? I might continue with mine then

So 2 vessels? ! for the lander and another for the crew? I think I can get the lander and add as a payload.

Two, provided the crew launch was on an Ares. I don't think something like the Altair is going to fit under the Orion like the LM did on a Saturn S-IVb. What I think is one or the other would have the upper cryogenic stage for TLI (or TMI, wht have you), so maybe launch the lander on a cargo SLS to have an Orion with the upper stage rendezvous and dock, then leave LEO.

But then again the Block II crew is pretty tall, I suppose it's for the proposed exploration upper stage, which will be huge, and the Block II cargo would have something like a long duration hab or the Skylab II.

But I like rendezvous and docking, and it gives the user an important task to perform before leaving LEO. Can't land on the moon without your lander!

Oh, and to DaveS: it's John Young's 84th birthday today. I still consider him the greatest astronaut in the NASA core.

If you're talking about the CT, then meshes and textures are included with the download ("checkout"). The checkout downloads everything in the selected repository folder, in this case, the trunk folder.

ok. I thought it was just code. Will check it out later today.
Thanks

By mesh name, I meant the part of the CVEL string in the scenario file that tells Velcro what mesh to use. Anyway, did it crash again, or did the changes fix it?

On the testing front, the core's config has been sorted out for now. The new config file should be on it's way to gattispilot's inbox in a moment. I'm also working on the fairings in addition to checking the numbers of the SRBs, so at this point I want numbers for the SRB empty and gross masses, and the fairings mass. I'll have time for doing some research later today, but I wouldn't mind not having to.;)

Hey John why don't you make it the crew access be adjustable
so you could move it up or down to fit the Orion's hatch, that would make the launch pad usable with other rockets too.

On the tower. I can make one for the SLS with the fixed Crew access and another with the crew access area so it can move up and down. Would have to remove the access arms though.

On the 2nd stage version. I get a ctd still when the stage separate. I added a cfg for the interstage section.

If you could just make the crew access move up and down just enough to be able to adjust for the area of the capsule, that way you would not have to remove the access arms.

I think this is a good idea. The Block 1 is going to be 318 ft. and the Block 2 385. It makes sense that they'd make the arm movable, since the tower already has a crane.

And a lightning rod. NO MORE APOLLO 12's!

OK. Well the reason the access arm needs to be removed is it limits the range of motion.
