OHM UCGO demolition charge

Hahaha, I just successfully bombed Brighton from orbit. I used Basesynch to retroburn until my orbit was set to crash right on top of Brighton, then pushed a UMMU guy out the airlock and grappled the nuke. When Basesync read exacly 610 seconds (ten minutes and ten seconds) to impact, I had the UMMU unpack the nuke and hammed my ship's thrusters to climb back to orbit. Aproximately ten seconds to impact, just above and maybe a mile uprange from Brighton, the nuke went off. Made a beautiful sight from orbit.

Requiring a manual unpacking to detonate just means I have to send a crew member along for the ride.

If you ever try this again, please post screenshots.

For sure. It was at a really low angle, I need to try again with a steeper trajectory so it's more centered over the target.

Nuclear war in Orbiter:thumbup:

It was kinda funny that my 100th post was about me nuking 2 moon bases and killing 3 UMMUs.(There was no way I could get that other guy in under a hour.)

You could add an auto unpack to the config file.
From Dan's CargoProbeAuto:
Code:
ucSpawnDelay = 15 ; delay in seconds of module spawning after cargo release (max 600)
p.s.I don't think that this was intended to be used to nuke bases from orbit, but; why not ?

Great idea! I copied the config file and made a second one with the auto deploy option.

Now get this: I can load the Arrow with a dozen of these things, set up my bombing run, and hammer someone with a whole salvo of nuclear destruction:cool:.

Congratulations, artlav, your asteroid-destroying, Earth-saving "demolition charge" has been turned into a WMD.

Too bad no one has made Valkyrie space shuttle from Avatar movie yet. Then we could arm it with these things not that puny duct taped together explosive pack.

Its noted in doc ;)

Code:
Once unpacked, the cargo becomes a full Orbiter vessel with endless possibilities: probe, a [B]bomb that nukes an asteroid[/B], laser, small droid, mining device that “drills” for new resources. If it can be done in C++, you can do it!

If someone will make a nice bomb-like mesh for it, i would put a timer in.
Alternative - debug line at the bottom.

A timer would be awesome.

But I think a debug line would be very useful, especially when watching from a distance and waiting for detonation.

Smoke in space?
Or smoke if in atmosphere?
Doable, i guess.

In an atmosphere at least. Smoke would be awesome. :)

Yeah, I think a debug line would be better, odds are you won't want to be close enough to see the timer.

Can I add my vote for a debug line countdown please? as tneo says, it'll be useful for watching for a distance.

I got the auto unpack to work. You need to change two numbers in the config file. The one I mentioned before, and this one from 2 to 0 or 1:
Code:
ucSpawnCondition= [B][U]0[/U][/B]     ; 0=Landed 1=Not landed 2=Always 3=unpack by UMmu

I would use 1 if you plan on orbital bombardment

I've noticed that whenever you quicksave during the countdown, close Orbiter and reopen it, the countdown is reset. Is there any way to get the countdown to resume where it left off rather than reset when you open your quicksave?

I like that I reset the count down. I could not do this with out it.

That is 40 nukes going off on Brighton Beach seen from 185km up.
Orbital bombardment is my new favorite sport.

You know, it figures that we get this new addon, UCGO, and the first thing people do with it is make weapons.

Tee hee.

its sad that more nukes don't increase the effect. Setting 100 off at the same time was very disappointing:focus:
